Glendive Tourism Hub Initiative

Revitalizing Downtown Through Strategic Tourism Development

$2.75 Million Grant Awarded - Five-Year Tourism Development Program

Project Overview

In October 2024, the **Eastern Plains Economic Development Corporation (EPEDC)** identified a significant opportunity to enhance tourism as a revenue stream in Glendive, Montana. This initiative was made possible through the Pilot Community Tourism Grant Program offered by the Montana Department of Commerce. Click here for more information on the grant.

Existing Tourism Assets

  • Makoshika State Park Montana's largest state park featuring badlands terrain

  • Yellowstone River Scenic river activities and outdoor recreation

  • Dinosaur Digs Paleontological experiences and fossil discoveries

  • Ranch Experiences Authentic western ranch and agricultural tourism

While these attractions have already gained traction with tourists, the tourism potential has not yet been fully capitalized upon, presenting a significant opportunity for growth.

Community Driven Development

The grant proposal was developed through comprehensive community engagement, including focus groups with a diverse cross-section of community members and business owners. The project aligns with guidance from the Montana Department of Commerce grant parameters and incorporates insights from Glendive's most recent downtown master plan.

Tourism Hub Vision

The grant will establish a "Tourism Hub" in downtown Glendive designed to achieve four primary objectives:

  • Increase Visitation to Eastern Montana Entice visitors from the interstate and encourage them to stay and discover Glendive, helping offset visitation duration in western Montana

  • Downtown Revitalization Breathe new life into the historic downtown core

  • Job Creation Generate employment opportunities in the tourism sector; increase traffic to current businesses

  • Community Connection Foster connections between visitors and local culture and businesses

Grant Award and Timeline

February 2025: The five-year, $2.75 million grant was officially awarded to EPEDC.
